The New Soundboks review
What do you do for your entertainment? In that question, the majority of the people will say that they hear music. And for enjoying music, a Bluetooth speaker is one of the better options.
When you look at most of the Bluetooth speakers today, you will find lots of portable options. Some are larger, and some are smaller. But for the Danish brand Soundboks, ‘big’ is quite a relative term, and its signature speaker, The New Soundboks, is monstrous by comparison.
The New Soundboks are more advanced and better sounding than the previous Soundboks 1 & Soundboks 2. It is considered the loudest portable Bluetooth speaker in the world.
I am pretty sure that you are very excited to know more about this beautiful gadget. Let’s not make any more delay and directly jump on the review.

Design & Control
The previous two versions had cabinets made of birch plywood, while its cabinet is made of poplar plywood. The manufacturer planned to reduce the weight, but without affecting the performance.
The thing is not that The New Soundboks is much lighter than the previous Soundboks 2. Still, its lighter cabinet allows them to add some hardware without increasing the speaker’s overall weight.
The cabinet is coated with a thin layer of plastic, making the device more weather resistant. The frame is reinforced with aluminum. There is also a silicon ball on each corner.
The front side is covered with a honeycomb steel grille, but it is not the same as Soundboks 2. Preferably this one has larger perforations which enable better airflow and better audio performance.
The grille protects one compression drive tweeter and two ten woofers. It is easily removable, which allows you to take it off and customize it.
The left panel stayed mostly unchanged. A simple battery compartment is located at the top and a steel carrying handle is located in the middle. The same handle will be seen on the opposite side too.
Another thing that makes the device different from the previous versions is the design of the bass reflex port. This type of port is supposed to produce better airflow and high-quality bass.
You will see a completely redesigned control panel, another handle port, and another carrying handle on the right panel.
The new control panel consists of a large volume dial and two buttons – Power and TeamUp. The TeamUp button is probably the most exciting feature of this device. Besides, a nice-looking circular LED volume is surrounding the volume dial.
The New Soundboks have both 3.5mm aux input and 3.5 mm aux output (can be used for daisy-chaining) and 2 XLR/6.35 mm combo ports. The panel with all these connections is known as a pro panel.
The New Soundboks has a useful frequency range of 40 Hz – 20,000 Hz when it comes to sound quality. The bass is clear and punchy, thanks to the two 10″ woofers. Let’s not forget the 1″ compression driver, which delivers bright and accurate highs that are not overpowering.
The device is designed to deliver up to 126 dB of volume, so you can easily play at high volumes without any distortion. Its sound is the loudest in the world.
The New Soundboks has more detailed sound than the Soundboks 2. The tweeter sound and the midrange are far better than the previous one. But the bass is not as deep as Soundboks 2.
New Soundboks have more emphasis in the mid-bass range; that’s why the bass quality is better in the older version.
If you are searching for a deep and low–end bass, then this speaker isn’t going to deliver it. But if you want a loudy, portable Bluetooth speaker that can provide a punchy, mid-bass range, then this one is perfect for you.
The construction of the speaker allows it to handle rain, sand, snow, etc. The device’s internal and external components can also control -10°C to +40°C temperature, allowing you to use your New Soundboks in most climates.
The New Soundboks may handle a spilled water or drink, but submerging it partially or fully into liquid will not be a good idea.
The internal components of the device are coated to comply with an IP65 rating. But because of the bass reflex port construction, the actual product cannot receive an IP rating, as there are holes in it, and water & dust can technically enter into the product.
Though all the critical parts of New Soundboks are made of aluminum, plastic, or stainless steel, having the device in a salty or humid environment for an extended time can lead the device to cosmetic damage. So, you have to give special attention while using in salty or sandy environments.
The Danish company, Soundboks, is still considered the first and only manufacturer of a performance speaker with a replaceable battery and can be paired via Bluetooth at the same time.
The New Soundboks features the updated BT v5.0 connectivity. BT v5.0 is very much capable of bringing the festival feeling.
The Bluetooth connectivity of this speaker doesn’t require a passcode to connect from default. If necessary, the user can add a password from the Bluetooth settings menu.
The option of connecting automatically when the speaker is powering on is also available.
The battery life of this Bluetooth speaker is worth mentioning. While putting the volume at (40-50)%, you can get a continuous playtime of 40 hours. And at work, you can get 5 to 6 hours of playtime. The device needs 3.5 hours to be fully charged.
Another good thing about the New Soundboks is you will get extra batteries with it and change it quite easily, without the help of any tools.
The battery is 12.8 V, 7.8 ah Lithium Iron Phosphate. It comes with a 5 – step LED indicator that lets you know the battery’s current status.
There is also a battery management system. The system protects the battery from overcharging, over-discharging, short circuits, etc.
The New Soundboks come with everything you need to get the party rocking. As mentioned, it provides BT v5.0 protocol for connecting any portable device.
Another fantastic feature of New Soundboks is it uses wireless connectivity. You can connect up to 5 New Soundboks devices for getting a louder volume. But the connected speakers have to New Soundboks; it doesn’t work with mixed models.
I am a bit disappointed that the device doesn’t have a separate volume control for the 3.5 mm stereo input and the instrument inputs/ microphone. There is only one volume control knob, which is for Bluetooth signal.
That means those inputs don’t have a preamp. So, if you connect an instrument or a mic, the device’s volume can’t be controlled.
But still, you have to appreciate the overall connectivity of the New Soundboks.
The Soundboks App
With the Soundboks app, you can access enhancements such as EQ and other different sound options. You can also control the speaker remotely at a distance of 60 feet or less from your phone or portable device by using Bluetooth connectivity.
Besides, when the new firmware is released, you can upgrade it through the app. Download the Soundboks app from the Google Play Store or the App Store for iOS.
